Wealth Building: The Three Ds

Wealth Building and You: Delight yourself with wealth by using these three Ds.

1. Define wealth. What is it for you? It's very difficult to work towards a goal if that goal isn't clear. You can think, "I want to be rich," but not know what it means and this might well prevent you from reaching your goal because it’s so vague. Obviously, being wealthy means different things to different people, as well as different people believing that different amounts of money mean someone is wealthy.

Take a few minutes to answer the following questions:

Make Money

What do you consider to be wealth? Is it good health? Friendships? Lifestyle? Freedom from any type of work? Or just freedom from work that you don’t like? Is it working 20 hours a week versus 60, or not working at all? Is it having enough to live in a castle in France, an island in the Carribean or having a mortgaged-free four-bedroom home, or is being able to pay off a mortgage of a two-bedroom home?

It’s important that you define it for your self before you can go after it and let it come to you. Self improvement and wealth building go hand in hand because one affects the other so much.

2. Determine how much you require in order to consider yourself to be wealthy. Again, it’s very different for different people. The standard understanding of wealth is that all it takes is $2.2 million to be wealthy, with the idea that you’ll live off the interest, since a modest return of 6% per year will gross about $132,000. This is only an example. Maybe you have determined that you require (need and want) more in order to consider yourself wealthy. A very important part of personal wealth is accepting responsibility for your wealth building. A crucial step for this is taking the time to really determine how much you need to reach this goal. Only then can you effectively plan and attract how much you want and need. We can learn much from Shakespeare when he advised, “To thy own self be true.”

3. Decide that you intend on making money. This is a crucial step, the deciding to be wealthy, in whatever way you have defined it. Why? For two very important reasons; now you know exactly what you are aiming for, and now you have been clear with the universe in your wants and needs. You can adjust it as you go along, but now that you’ve decided, you’ve made a commitment and that is a very bold thing to do. It is what grounds success.

Once you’ve decided to be wealthy, you must take action, and do so with faith because there is so much wealth to be made.
