Why Visualizing Works:
Visualizing used to be considered silly daydreaming, but it has now been proven to be effective in manifesting your heart's desires.
It has become more popular ever since the movie, "The Secret," came out, where it fully explained how the law of attraction works and what role you play in creating your life.
Once you’ve begun the practice of
positive thinking,
then you’re on the right track to begin the most fun part of the law of attraction: creating what you really want.
Jack Canfield, co-creator of the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” Book Series, explains the effects of visualizing on page 81 of his book,
"The Success Principles."
Canfield found that, “Harvard University researchers found that students who visualized in advance performed tasks with nearly 100% accuracy, whereas students who didn’t visualize achieved only 55% accuracy.”
In addition, nearly all Olympic athletes now incorporate this practice as part of their training. Would they spend time doing this if it didn’t work?
Have you ever thought about someone and then run into them or received an email from them shortly after? That’s how this works. You see it in your mind and then it presents itself to you in reality. It works with little things like seeing yourself being offered a cup of coffee to living in your dream home.
Thoughts really do become things.
When we first started practicing this, it seemed very far-fetched. As we’ve mentioned before, our lives were not what we wanted a little over two years ago, and we were very frustrated because it seemed that nothing we did to improve our lives was working. Rather than go on being frustrated (we were frustrated with being frustrated!), we thought it was all the more reason to give this a try.
Amanda is a very picky coffee drinker and decided to visualize someone offering her a cup of her favorite coffee, (Sumatra from Starbucks). A few days passed and nobody had offered her a Starbucks coffee and she was getting a little worried that the law of attraction wasn’t working for her, that perhaps she couldn’t be so picky—maybe any cup of coffee should be good enough that way more would come to her. A few more days passed and she was with Ivy who was getting some coffee for herself, the Starbucks employee looked at us both and said, “Do you want a free coffee?” Amanda was so shocked that she said, "No." Ivy said, "Yes," and enjoyed a fabulous free cup of coffee.
Ivy pointed out to Amanda that this might be a sign from the universe, and her refusing the coffee might indicate that she was not willing or ready to receive on a bigger scale. Amanda decided if the opportunity presented itself again, she would definitely accept because she wanted to receive on a bigger scale.
A few days later, Amanda was getting her daily cup of coffee and when she went to pay for it, the woman behind the counter, said, “Free coffee day today.” A free coffee day was unusual, but this time Amanda said, "Okay. Thanks!"
While a free cup of coffee might not seem like a big deal to you, it was only the beginning. Seeing that this practice did work, we began to use it for more meaningful things. It has worked beautifully and continues to do so.
Some days it feels like it may not be working, but then we remember the free coffee, and a lot of other small things that have manifested in our lives as a result of beginning this practice and we focus on positive thinking and continue to receive.
As we’ve pointed out before, Napoleon Hill states that, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” If you can see it in your mind, then you can achieve it. This is where you get to pick and choose what you really want out of life.
We already know that like attracts like, so whatever your thoughts, whatever you can see in your mind, you are creating those thoughts into reality. This is happening whether you’re aware of it or not, the law of attraction is always at work.
How to Practice Visualizing:
This is very fun.
1. The first thing you need to do is to set aside some time to visualize. A few minutes in the morning and a few minutes before going to sleep is great. Don’t strain, just enjoy what you create.
2. Use visuals. We both have vision boards: One poster-sized one in our office as well as a three-ring binder to carry with us. Having the poster is great since it is big enough to hold all our wants, and it is a constant reminder of what we are working towards. The three-ring binder has been great when we’ve been out for the day and around negative people who try to impose their limiting thoughts on to us. We've always been able to find a few quiet moments alone with our vision binder. With it, we can immediately connect with our true wants, and allowing us to continue to think positively. When you do this, imagine yourself living the life you want and know that you really are
manifesting your desires.
It's that simple. It's that powerful.
To really help you generate positive feelings while you visualize, you can also add music, words, and
affirmations.
Anything that helps you to feel good, thus emitting higher, positive frequencies will help you achieve your goals.
