Soothing Sounds

Why Listen to Soothing Sounds?

Just like our favorite song makes us start tapping our toes, swaying our hips and singing along, the effects of listening to calm sounds are that they help us to relax, collect our thoughts and help us to gain clarity.

Our environment affects how we feel, how clearly we think (or don't think!), and what kind of mood we're in.

Luckily, our environment is easy to change and can be changed often by changing what we listen to. Simple things like changing what sounds you hear will largely impact your state of mind, how you interact with others and how well you perform in your activities.

Interestingly enough, in film and television, higher-income families are seen listening to classical music. This is no coincidence since studies have shown that classical music helps improve performance and thus the association with classical music and high income.

What Are The Benefits?

Listening to calm music can help your overall health including:

How to Incorporate Soothing Sounds Into Your Day:

1. Find a relaxation tape or CD that you like. For instance, if you love hiking, you might want to listen to the sounds of nature including rainforest. Or if you love the beach, you might want to try ocean sounds. These are our favorites as they're so relaxing.

2. Listen to the tapes while driving, or download the music into your ipod and listen while you're on the bus.

3. Set a relaxing sound as your background music while you're meditating.

4. Begin and/or end your yoga session with some mantras that you can find on relaxation tapes.

5. Replace the music you are currently listening to with calming music, even if only for a few minutes.

And then, watch how your mood softens and how much better you feel.

The more often you listen to relaxing sounds, the more improvement you'll notice in yourself as you continue including these techniques on your self improvement journey.
