Outside the Box Idea:
Enrich Your Life By Spending a Year Away From It?

Outside the box thinking is not for everyone. It takes a lot of courage to take the road less travelled and allow your life to be lived filled with outside the box ideas.

Ever daydream of how your life could be different if you lived in a different place? Then maybe you are ready for what could be a very fulfilling idea.

As you work towards your self growth, you'll probably tackle challenging self improvement and personal development issues. When you're serious about improving your life and striving for personal growth, you may dig in your heels and almost demand and will a change to happen. Sometimes, the opposite actually works, which is when thinking outside the box may serve you well.

Whenever you become too attached to personal growth, you might become so focused on it that you hold on too tightly. This is understandable because when you know you want a change, you often want it now!

When you are over-burdened with issues and feel that you could benefit greatly from a change and that change hasn't happened it, perhaps you need to take a step back from your self improvement journey and that in turn, may pave the way for an even more fulfilling personal development journey if you allow yourself to think outside the box.

While you try to work with areas of your self growth, you also deal with the very real physical world you live in and usually, your inner world changes first before you see any significant outside changes.

It's only natural that many of us have daydreamed about running away from our life and then quickly dismissed it as an unrealistic possiblity. Most of us have the good sense to know that whatever problems we now have, we are likely to still have them no matter where we are. And also, many of us have a difficult time even thinking about going anywhere else for a good length of time.

Although it's clear that not every problem can be solved by simply going somewhere different, and that it is not something to be done lightly, actually taking a year from your life for a year can be one of the most rewarding things you can do. Just ask anyone who routinely does it, like a university professor on sabbatical or a recent graduate who spent a year travelling.

Are you someone who can enrich your life by taking a year away? You might be if:

  • You often daydream about being somewhere else
  • You feel that you're seriously in a rut
  • You feel you've been really needing a change but haven't been up to carrying it out
  • Have lost your natural enthusiasm?
  • The idea of being somewhere else for a year delights you, even if only secretly
  • You feel the need to re-new your spirit
  • There are people in your life that would also benefit by you taking a year away, like your partner, your children, your parents and friends
  • You know you really want this type of adventure

The wonderful thing about taking a year away from the life you know is that you actually let go of willing your self-improvement to happen. You allow yourself to go on an adventure, a journey that may well turn into a quest. The wonderful thing is that you can decide how long you want to be gone, and make arrangements for your life to continue as it is now, if that is your wish, once you return. At the end of this time period, you can return home and decide how to proceed with your life from there.

We've known people who have returned to their life, much like it was, but better because they came back revitalized and with great stories and wonderful adventures. We've also known people who have done this, and as a result, have taken their lives in completely different directions. It's up to you. So, how would you get started on this outside the box adventure?
