Healthy Eating

When you eat foods that are bad for you, eat too much or too little, you're not only expanding your waistline, but you're making a negative and potentially dangerous impact on your entire health. A healthy balanced diet is crucial. If you are not selective with the food you eat, don't be surprised if you find yourself gaining weight, having little energy, needing a lot of sleep and/or feeling depressed.

If you're having trouble maintaining a healthy diet, you may benefit from our healthy diet tips. There you'll find 15 healthy diet tips we've put together that are designed to help you get started, and stay motivated enough to see results.

There are many healthy eating guidelines from all over the world. For instance, Japan is known for having one of the lowest levels of heart disease in the world. Their diet consists mainly of a lot of soy products, fish, rice and vegetables. They consume very little red meat and dairy products. It's not a coincidence that Japan has the highest life expectancy in the world, surpassing all of the developed countries.

Other developed countries where people do follow healthy eating guidelines are found in southern Europe. People living in countries such as Portugal, Spain, Greece and Italy, tend to eat a lot of fish and olive oil. This is very helpful in providing the body with omega 3 oils,. An important ingredient in most healthy diets.

This Mediterranean diet is great because many of the foods like olive oil, nuts, and tomatoes lowers the LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), helps the skin's appearance and is rich in antioxidants. This means cleaner arteries, a healthier heart which produces a longer, healthier life. It's not surprising that it consists of eating a lot of fish and olive oil, which are very rich in omega 3 oils, which is very beneficial to your overall health. These foods should be part of everyone's healthy eating guidelines.

Similarily, a vegetarian diet has been known to have many health benefits. Following a vegetarian diet means not eating any animal protein, like chicken, red meat, or fish (although some vegetarians still eat fish and call themselves vegetarians). A more extreme type of a vegetarian diet is a vegan diet. Vegans don't eat any type of animal products, including milk, eggs, cheese, etc. While a vegetarian diet isn't for everyone, most people could add a little flavor to their meals by occasionally having a vegetarian meal. Vegetarianism is becoming the latest trend for good reason. Many times the food in a vegetarian diet is tastier, healthier, less expensive and more filling than meat dishes.

Besides being a healthy alternative, vegetarianism can also be a delicious one since there are a variety of meat substitutes such as tofu and tempeh that provide protein and other nutritious benefits.

Even if you don't want to become a vegetarian, it is a good idea to cook up some vegetarian dishes as part of a healthy diet and for variety. Your body will love you for it and so will your bank account. You can make tasty vegetarian meals very inexpensively.
